Proving Inheritance

Proving inheritance is usually a simple matter. In the case of children, proof of paternity and/or maternity is the basis. In order to inherit, it may also be necessary to provide other forms of proof. These will concern the marriage or relation of the 2 individuals involved in the disposal of the property in the will. Was there a marriage ceremony? Did the mother and father of the child co-habit prior to the birth of the child? Did the mother or father of the child take an active role in the child's life? Who claimed the child for purposes of income taxes? To all extent and purpose, did the father or mother openly treat the child as if he or she was his or hers own. Birth certificates, child support payments and other items may bolster chances in proving inheritance of a parent's property.
