Drafting a will is complicated for various reasons.  First, the laws surrounding this area are extremely complicated and difficult to navigate.  Second, there are numerous sensitive issues that regarding one’s family that arise when considering how to structure one’s estate.

A will is an instrument that determines how your property will be distributed following your death.  The individuals that receive the property through a will are called beneficiaries.  Technically, you are not required to consider the beneficiaries’ wishes when drafting a will; you can decide how your property will be distributed.  Therefore, it is possible to leave beneficiaries property through a will even though they may have wanted a charity to receive it.
